Guests at the American Heart Association's Heart Ball were resplendent in formal attire, many accented in red, in honor of their cause. Dr. Alan Braverman was presented the Hugh D. McCullah award for embodying the Heart Association's values, while this year's appeal honored Dr. Abdullah Nassief, one of the region's premier stroke experts, who died of coronary artery disease. Co-chairs were Dr. Larry Shapiro and Mrs. Carol Uetake-Shapiro, and Ladue News was among the sponsors.
Founded in 1924, the American Heart Association is the nation's oldest and largest voluntary health organization dedicated to eradicating heart disease and stroke, America's No. 1 and No. 3 killers.

More than 450 guests turned out for Ranken Jordan’s annual Crystal Ball at the Kemp Auto Museum. Emcee Mike Bush of KSDK and CEO Laureen Tanner offered a welcome and thanked ball chair Valerie Denton, volunteers, and sponsors including Tiffany & Co. and Thompson Coburn LLP for their generous support. “In my 10 years at Ranken Jordan, I have learned to say, ‘Yes,’ to children and their familieswhen they’ve heard ‘no’ far too often,” commented Tanner.
More than $100,000 was raised to enable Ranken Jordan, a pediatric specialty hospital, to provide rehabilitation and subacute medical treatment for seriously ill and injured children regardless of their family’s ability to pay. For more serious medical issues, Ranken Jordan helps bridge the gap between traditional hospital treatment and home care.
